How many fountain pens are the right number to own?
Seems like a silly, first-world kind of question.
The inside joke with pen collectors is, “Just one more.”
I’ve heard the same answer from people who are into motorcycles, cameras, lenses, carving knives, and lots more.
The same idea shows up in our daily activities.
Just one more sales call seems like a good idea. One more minute on the treadmill. Run one more mile. Push harder.
One time, I was working in my woodshop and had a strong intuition that I should be done for the day. I decided to resaw just one more board on my bandsaw.
Cut my finger off.
I know people who decided to take just one more ski run. They were tired. The light had changed just enough.
Broken leg.
Maybe “just one more” isn’t the best philosophy in life, after all.
