Fans of the Terminator franchise, and who amongst us doesn’t toss off the occasional “I’ll be back,” will not need reminding that at 2:14 Eastern Time (UTC-5) on August 29, 1997, Skynet became self-aware. This was not good.
Nevertheless, happy 27th birthday SkyNet.
This leads me to several thoughts.
- Still waiting
- Anyone there?
- Predicting anything is a fundamentally fraught activity. And yet we do it. All. The. Time
SkyNet may already be here, but we just don’t know it. It may be coming; it’s just a question of when. It may be all a head fake, and this is just a computer simulation.
Who knows?
Today, twelve years ago, we also purchased our farm.
Outside my door, I see, hear, and smell the signs of autumn stirring and summer bedding down. The fruit is full on the tree, blackberries are begging to be picked, the compost pile is composting, and Mozart’s Requiem never fails to stir me.
These things I do know.
Happy birthday, Blue Moon Farm.
