Four (of many) Rules of Selling

There are many rules (lessons, principles, good ideas) governing good selling. Here are four for your list.

  • People buy from people. It’s easy to forget this, but you do so at your peril.
  • You’re afraid they won’t buy, and they’re afraid they will. Dealing with that dynamic will deliver a happy outcome 95% of the time.
  • If you don’t believe in persuasion, get out of sales. You can dress it up all you want, but at the end of the day, selling is about influence and persuasion.
  • Success at sales comes from who you are. If something you don’t like about selling or how you feel about selling or what you’re selling, it’s because something is crashing up against your sense of self. When that happens, it’s time to make a change.
